Information

 KonitsaKonitsa firstly appears in the books of history in the time of Konstantinos Pogonatos. In 1453 it was occupied by Turks and was liberated in 1913. In the years of Ali Pasha, whose mother Hamko came from Konitsa, the city flourished in the economic sector and was a transport center towards the Balkans and Europe.

Monastery of Virgin Mary Stomiou
Information

The Monastery of Virgin Mary Stomiou is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary (8 September), had protochtistei across in 1590, but moved to its present location in 1774, because there went thafmatourgikos the image of the monastery! Over the years the monastery was completely destroyed, except the church, and remained so for fifteen years, until I restored the elder Paisios the Holy Mountain.

Aoos (Greek: Αώος, for other forms of the name see below) is a river in northwestern Greece and southwestern Albania.

Its total length is about 272 kilometres (169 mi), of which the first 80 kilometres (50 mi) are in Greece, and the remaining 192 kilometres (119 mi) are in Albania. Vjosë is fed by two secondary branches, both in Albania, the Drino river and the Shushicë.

Aoos Old Bridge

The Konitsa Bridge is a unique bridge due to its location and construction. It was built in 1871 and costed 120.000 Turkish lira. The builder was Ziogas Frontzos from the village of Pyrsogianni. This was the second attempt to bridge the Aoos river since a previous bridge designed by Turkish engineers collapsed.

Vikos Gorge
Information

Vikos Gorge is located on the southern slopes of mount Tymfi. Its main part is located between the villages of Vikos and Monodendri and attains a depth of about 1,000 m (3,281 ft), with a southeast-northwest direction. The landscape of the 20 km (12 mi) long gorge, 12 km (7 mi) which belongs to the park's core zone, presents a diverse relief and is characterized by abrupt changes in altitude.

Aoos Gorge

In the northern part of the Park, and very close to the town of Konitsa, the Aoös river passes through channels formed by the bulges of the nearby mountains of Trapezitsa 2,022 m (6,634 ft), Tymfi and Raidovouni 1,957 m (6,421 ft), creating another gorge that is 10 km (6 mi) long.
